Here We Are!

So here we are! Finally! SmackandJack.com
Keith and I started ‘Smack and Jack’ in the summer of 2015. We did some interviews, set up a very primitive site and then…..then we basically got stuck!
We had plenty of ideas but were not sure how to put them into action. We wanted an awesome website but had no idea how to set one up without spending a ton of money. We wanted to offer products that we believe in but – How do we do that??
Very quickly our engines slowed down and we shifted from overdrive back down to 2nd, maybe even 1st gear. We lost our direction, we had doubt and we procrastinated because we were overwhelmed.
(Then came The Four Percent Challenge. More about this program in a later post.)
There is a good chance that you have found yourself in a similar situation.
Feeling overwhelmed can really cause operations to slow or even stop. Like a wheel falling off the wagon. A rake with a broken handle. A lawn mower without a sharp blade. An electric chain saw without a power cord, etc., etc.. You get where I am going.
Feeling like there is too much to do can often make me do nothing at all which is the complete opposite of what really needs to be done! (that’s a weird sentence!)
I have to tell myself over and over again to take things a little bit at a time. Break down the task at hand into smaller chunks that can be accomplished in a manageable amount of time. I create a checklist that can give me a visual of my progress. I don’t worry about perfection, I can go back and clean things up after I have sketched out my work.
Take, example, this very first blog post. Before I started I took a look around the internet for how others put their blogs together. That was a real eye opening experience. I came across some fantastic looking sites with some amazing content. Blogs were filled with many posts, pictures, videos and links galore. And I had not even typed a letter of my very first blog yet.
Fortunately just after taking this tour of blogs my lovely wife Stefanie called everybody for dinner! That was perfect timing as I again was feeling a bit overwhelmed. This gave me time to close the computer and back away for a short time.
Upon returning to work after my short break, the very first thing I had to tell myself is that there is no other site on the internet that is just like SmackandJack.com. We don’t look like other sites nor will we offer the same content or products. Remembering that putting “…One foot in front of the other…” and taking one step at a time we can break down any task into manageable parts.
So I started typing my first words……
Sometimes we just need to take a break to give ourselves time to think and recharge and then get back to work with a clear mind.
